Two charcoal shipping-container data centre modules on a concrete pad in a fenced compound at dusk, with rooftop condenser fans and a padmount transformer.

Put the compute
where the power
already is.

4D Energy builds complete data centres inside shipping containers, then installs them on your site — a substation yard, a mine camp, an industrial parking lot. Poured pad to first workload in sixty days, anywhere in Canada.

Why modular

Transmission takes years.
A module takes a season.

Power is not the constraint in Canada — getting it to a building is. Interconnection queues, substation upgrades and new transmission are measured in years, and a conventional data hall is a construction project on top of that.

4D Energy inverts the problem. We build the data centre in our shop, truck it to the power, and set it on a pad. There is no building program, no long lead structural work, and no stranded capital while you wait for a line.

Every module is a sealed, serviceable unit: racks, cooling, switchgear, fire suppression, controls and remote monitoring, commissioned before it leaves the floor.

What's inside a module
A single charcoal 4D Energy container data centre installed on a concrete pad at the edge of an office park parking lot, beside parked cars, an electrical cabinet and a padmount transformer.
A 4D-40 sited on the east edge of a commercial lot. Six parking stalls, one service trench, no change to the building.

The module

Three systems in one box.

A 4D module is an ISO container that has been stripped, insulated, reinforced and fitted out as a data hall. Everything below is factory-installed and pre-commissioned.

The cold aisle inside a container data centre, with two facing rows of black server racks, blue status lights and orange and aqua fibre routed through overhead trays.

01 · Compute

Contained cold aisle

Up to twenty 42U rack positions on a perforated floor, with full aisle containment, overhead fibre and copper trays, and busway drops to each cabinet. Rated for 12.5 kW per rack sustained, and up to 40 kW with rear-door heat exchangers.

Close view of the rooftop cooling plant on a container data centre: four large axial condenser fans, finned heat exchanger coils and insulated refrigerant lines on a galvanized steel frame.

02 · Cooling

Free cooling most of the year

N+1 direct-expansion units with an economizer that runs on outside air below 15 °C — which, on most Canadian sites, is the majority of the year. Sealed to keep dust, smoke and salt out of the airstream.

SERV SWGR UPS PDU 600 V 3Ø Breakers N+1 Per rack GEN INPUT BATTERY · 10 MIN

03 · Power & controls

Single point of connection

One 600 V three-phase service lands on the module. Switchgear, UPS, distribution, VESDA smoke detection and clean-agent suppression are inside. Environmental and power telemetry stream to your NOC over the link of your choice.

Specifications

Two standard modules.

Both ship as a single road-legal load. Custom configurations are built from the same platform.

Figures are for the standard build. Seismic, arctic, sour-gas and high-density liquid-cooled variants are quoted per site.

Deployment

Sixty days from pad to workload.

The site work and the module build run in parallel, which is where the schedule comes from.

  1. Day 0

    Site assessment

We walk the site, confirm the service, the pad location, crane access and the network path. You get a fixed-price scope.

  2. Day 5

    Civil and electrical start

Pad, trench, conduit and the service upgrade go in while the module is on our shop floor.

  3. Day 45

    Factory acceptance

The module runs a full load bank test in the shop. You witness it, on site or on camera, before it ships.

  4. Day 52

    Transport and set

One truck, one crane, one day. The module is bolted down, terminated and sealed.

  5. Day 60

    Energized and handed over

Commissioning, monitoring cut-over and first workload. We hold the maintenance contract from here.

Where these go

Five site types we build for.

If your site has a service, a level place to put a pad and a way in for a crane, it is a candidate.

Site typeWhat it solvesSite requirement
Substation & generation yards Compute behind the meter, at the source, with no transmission wait. Existing 600 V service · 15 m clear
Oil & gas pads Turns stranded and flared gas into a revenue-generating load. Gen set or genco tie · sour-gas variant
Mine sites & remote camps Local processing where the fibre back-haul is thin or expensive. Arctic package · winter road window
Institutional & municipal lots Research or civic compute without a capital building program. 6–12 parking stalls · noise limit 55 dBA
Carrier & telecom exchanges Regional edge capacity added a module at a time, as demand shows up. Existing fibre entrance · fenced compound
